How Not To Start A Webcomic #23

Contributed by War of Digital War

Phalanx says:

Lesson:

  1. Do not start your comic as a Real Life Rip-Off.

Saving graces: And may justice be done.

Terotrous says:

And Ewan kills more people. He's like a killing machine!

mcDuffies says:

War seems to share my hatred towards real life. "Hey there, welcome to my comic", as lame as it sounds, has proven to be very successful. Still, you gotta hand it to War, he decided to stop kicking those who are already down and turn this in opposite direction - to comics that are not so obviously bad and hated. There's a lot of crap in popular comics and we now it.
The most notable flaw in this comic? Greg-like character keeping his hands in his pockets all the time. I'm actually sorry he abrupt that by pulling his hands out of his pockets to wave to us. Aside form that, keeping-hands-in-pockets is pretty consistent here. Now, what's wrong with hands in pockets?
1. nobody keeps his hands in pockets 24h a day. 2. pockets shown are not big enough to keep hands of normal size in them.
3. we all know what boys do while they're keeping their hands in pockets (well, at least boys know). Seems like Real-life crew is hooked on golf.
4. as clearly seen in second panel, it's not normal to keep your hands in your pockets while you're screaming in terror because someone is jumping at you with sharp sword, with obvious intention to kill you.
Authors often have problems with drawing hands. Still, most of authors decide to fight with that problems, draw hands oddly-shapped (as in "Bobbins", which inevitably led to author eventually learning how to draw them), as mittens, or simplifying them to 4-fingered Disney standard. Avoiding to draw hands is not a sign of lack of skills, it's a sign of laziness (and, I deeply believe, disrespect of readers).
I remember a scene in "Preacher" (which, as popular as it was, lacked in art): six or seven people sitting around the table, each one of them keeping their hands under the table. Aside from perverse associations, how likely do you think it is to happen in reality?
